Tutorial Five: Video Production Sessions

Provide a brief summary of the services offered by Youtube.
You tube services are offered as follows:
Introduction:
YouTube is a popular video hosting and sharing service that was purchased by Google in 2006. The service lets users view and upload video files. In addition to hosting videos, the service lets users rate videos, add comments, and subscribe to their favorite producers. Registration is free. It is not required to view videos, but you do need to register for some features: http://google.about.com/od/moreaboutgoogleaps/p/youtubeprofile.htm
YouTube Community:
One of the reasons YouTube has been so popular is because it fosters a sense of community. You can not only view videos, but you can also rate and comment on videos. Some users even respond with video commentary. YouTube has partnered with commercial content providers for the legal viewing of some commercial content. Google has been sued over copyright infringement and has promised future technological solutions that will more readily detect piracy.

Week Five Lecture was Technology & Work role Identity.  Has technology provided us with more efficiency? We can get through larger quantities of work, numerous tasks have been automated and information is more accessable. Does this simplify a working day?
The introduction of technology into the environment has created a decrease of 'hands on' and 'hand crafted' items.  Automation has increased production with a reduction in labour requirement. The users of technology have only to input the requirements for technology to deliver.
"Labour is the activity which corresponds to the biological process of human body whose spontaneous growth, metabolism and eentual decay are bound to the vital necessities proudced and fed into life process by labour. The human conditon of labour is life itself" (Arendt, 1958, p.7).
Labour has created work and leisure. Work can be purposeful and meaningful. Work is distinct from labour and must be discovered. Creation of one mans desire of art, labour and leisure: YouTube - Theo Jansen's Strandbeests - Wallace & Gromit's World of Invention Episode 1 Preview - BBC One
The will of work was to provide for immediate needs food, water - these covered safety for family and self, social and then actual self in leisure.
Technology has supplied us with efficiency & usability in every day life. Has technology decreased our hand skills? Are we too reliant on technology to motivate? examples of play station, second life games (farmville)
